Why can fip-8 and fip-13 reduce gas?
In the filecoin network, miners need to go through four stages of “P1, P2 (precommit), C1, C2 (provecommit)” to encapsulate data, link up and obtain block rewards. Most of the gas consumption is concentrated in P2 and C2.
P1 stage does not link, does not consume gas;
In P2 stage, a large amount of gas is consumed;
In C1 stage, there is no chain and gas consumption;
In C2 stage, a lot of gas is consumed.
On the blockchain browser, we can also see that P2 and C2 occupy the “big head” of gas, and the combined gas consumption of the two accounts for about 95%.
Therefore, reducing the gas consumption of P2 and C2 is to reduce the gas consumption of filecoin network.
Fip-8 and fip-13 reduce gas by batch submitting sectors

Now a miner can only submit one sector at a time. If a miner’s daily added computing power is 1pib, if he uses a 32gib sector, he needs to submit 32768 sectors, that is, 32768 messages; If you are using 64gib sectors, you need to submit 16384 sectors.
When the fip-8 proposal is implemented, it will support batch sector pre submission by adding precommitsectorbatch.
Batch pre submit sectors means that it can greatly reduce the number of sectors submitted, reduce the network congestion rate, and then reduce the gas fee.
For example, if 1tib sectors can be submitted in batches, the miners only need to submit 1024 messages for adding 1pib computing power;
If 100 TiB sectors can be submitted in batches, the miner only needs to submit 10 messages when adding 1pib computing power.
Therefore, the implementation of fip-8 proposal can greatly reduce the gas cost of P2 phase.
Similarly, C2 has the same logic.
The fip-13 proposal adds a method for miners to submit multiple sectors in a single submission to prove the submission message, which means that sectors in C2 phase can also be submitted in batches.
Therefore, the gas of C2 stage can also be greatly reduced.
